1924 - 2003
Lobanov was born in Mologa (Russia). At the age of 7 he became deaf and later dumb as a result of meningitis. At the age of 23, his family agreed to send him to a mental hospital because of his aggressive behavior. At the age of 30 and still a mental hospital inmate Lobanov began to draw. The central elements of his drawings are guns, pistols, military and Soviet symbols which he connected with each other in oval-framed compositions.
In the 1970s, Lobanov took an interest in photography. He photographed himself posing with hats, guns, etc. that appeared in his drawings which he constructed himself in actual siize.
